This master thesis research investigates in the new research field of innovation ecosystems. It outlines the relevance and importance of cooperation for innovation between actors from science, economy, society, and politics. The collaboration for innovation has become a critical success factor for organizations. However, organizations are often not aware of their own capabilities and the benefits of collaborating for innovation. This thesis’ artefact is the Innovation Ecosystem Framework (IEF). The IEF provides a standardized approach for innovation ecosystem strategy development with a high focus on capability analysis. Using various methods and tools, organizations are guided through a process from idea generation to innovation ecosystem strategy development. By assessing the innovation idea, analyzing the current state of the organization, and identifying missing capabilities and required collaboration partners the IEF creates awareness of the need and benefits of collaboration for innovation.
