Mexico is currently in third rank as one of the poorest recycling countries in the world. Despite sufficient technology and infrastructure, what are barriers in Mexico that inhibit recycling? The elaboration of incentives and business opportunities in Mexico starts with the research on the following predefined criteria: Recycling Culture, Recycling Need and Opportunities, National Barriers and Support and Infrastructure.
The researcher investigates the Mexican recycling sector in order to suggest potential economic incentives. By analysing and evaluating different use cases of Switzerland in this sector, a further conclusion for Mexico will be approached. Attractiveness and demand for Mexico in economic terms are main indicators for the decision on a suitable use case in Mexico. The Business Model Canvas is used as a template to visualize key elements in order to then develop a potential business opportunity. Accordingly, previously determined factors that are in relation with profitable recycling in Mexico are included in the research process.
Research has shown that investments are needed in the recycling sector in Mexico and great potential can be exploited. With the increase in environmental awareness, sustainable production and green marketing from private companies, the recycling sector offers a template for collaboration and transfer of knowledge. As the foundation Swiss Recycling is head of recycling companies in Switzerland, interesting insights about foreign markets have been explored. Because Recycling is in Switzerland something people take for granted, a different perspective from third world countries can provide hints for further improvements on recycling quotes in Switzerland.
