Climate change, population growth and expanding settlement areas are some of the developments that affect the stable drinking water supply. In recent events, one could observe that one of the first and most important goods that are needed to ensure the welfare of the affected population is drinking water. While plans are in place to transfer water from other areas and rebuild the damaged infrastructure, many providers do not have sufficient means to cover the drinking water needs for the days immediately after a loss of the conventional water supply. Further, a large part of the population in developing countries do not have access to clean and safe drinking water.
Firstly, the most important buying decision factors for potential buyers were identified by interviewing cantonal representatives. Based on these needs, the product of Gysin Asiko AG was compared to competitor products that are already in the market. Additionally, multiple models were employed to gain an overview of the various operational environments of the firm.
The house of quality analysis has shown a relative competitive advantage compared to the competitor products considered within this study. The environment analyses give an overview of the developments, opportunities and chalenges in the various spheres. An industry entry analysis was made using Porter's five forces model. As the study is limited due to the scope, the outcome may not be diagnostic enough to base decision upon but the various data gathered and processed by applying the models give a useful overview of the market and its likely movement. Despite the relatively low number of competitor products analysed, the needs that were identified combined with the necessary competencies have drawn a picture of what the most important product features are and where costs can potentially be reduced. Most importantly, the study offers the client a stable base of discussion and can be used for defining the further strategy.
