This thesis develops a digital maturity model tailored to small and medium-sized insurance brokers in Switzerland. Brokers face growing pressure from digital competitors, changing client expectations and regulatory demands. Many still rely on legacy systems and informal routines that slow digital progress and create uncertainty about how to structure transformation. Existing maturity models offer general guidance but do not reflect the advisory logic, compliance duties or resource constraints that shape brokerage work.
The study applies a design science research approach to build a practice-oriented maturity model and integrates insights from digital transformation literature with expert interviews from the Swiss brokerage market. The ABILI Methodology provides the conceptual and technological base for designing and implementing the artefact. The model includes dimensions and indicators that reflect operational, strategic and technological needs and is implemented on the abiliCor platform to support structured self-assessment and strategic planning. The artefact was refined through iterative expert feedback and evaluated in a pilot assessment with Procare Vorsorge AG. The results show that the model captures the core digital challenges brokers face and helps identify strengths, capability gaps and improvement priorities in a clear and actionable way.
The findings indicate that brokers benefit from a simple model structure that reduces complexity and supports informed decision-making. The thesis contributes a validated, context-sensitive maturity model that supports brokers in planning digital development and strengthens their position in a rapidly changing market.
