The study aims to identify specific digital tools and cultural adjustments that can foster a more agile and innovative culture within mature ICT organizations. Using a qualitative approach, the research integrates a literature review with semi-structured interviews conducted with managers and founders of ICT startups, as well as IT departments employees from mature ICT organizations in Switzerland. Key themes from the literature shaped a deductive coding framework, guiding the analysis of interview data. The interviews coded using ATLAS.ti, revealed recurring themes, challenges, and effective practices in organizational contexts.
Findings indicate that startups drive innovation through flexible team dynamics, extensive digital tool use, and adaptive leadership, while mature organizations often encounter structural rigidity and a lack of cultural flexibility. The study suggests that mature ICT companies can significantly boost their innovation capacity by adopting collaborative digital tools, fostering a more experimental culture, and supporting leadership practices that encourage adaptability and innovation. In conclusion, this thesis provides practical recommendations for mature ICT organizations in Switzerland seeking to emulate the innovative and agile environment of ICT startups in Switzerland. Implementing these recommendations can help mature ICT organizations remain competitive in a rapidly changing digital landscape, contributing to their long-term success and resilience.
