As BVB Infrastructure seeks to align its digital transformation efforts with its Vision 2040+ strategy, the organization expressed a need for a structured framework to assess its digital maturity. Built around BVB Infrastructure's four core business processes— infrastructure monitoring and control, construction project planning and execution, rail infrastructure maintenance, and property management—there was a clear requirement for customized assessment criteria that reflect the organization's unique challenges and priorities.
The methodology for developing the tool involved an exhaustive literature review of existing digital maturity models and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders from the division. These steps enabled the identification and validation of seven relevant dimensions, excluding products and customers due to the internal focus of BVB Infrastructure’s operations. Each dimension was defined with specific assessment criteria and maturity levels to facilitate a targeted and detailed analysis.
The resulting tool allows BVB Infrastructure to optimize workflows, integrate innovative technologies, and implement data-driven decision-making to improve efficiency and sustainability. It ensures that digital transformation initiatives significantly contribute to operational excellence, long-term sustainability, and the ability to meet the demands of modern public transport. Despite limitations such as restricted internal data access and a small sample size for interviews, the study provides a strong foundation for guiding digital transformation efforts. Furthermore, the tool could potentially be extended to other BVB divisions, enhancing the organization's overall competitiveness in the public transport sector.
