This master thesis investigates how a competence framework which enables the measurement and assessment of digital leadership can be created. Digital leadership describes leaders who are capable of formulating a distinct and meaningful vision for the process of digitalization. They have enough skills to implement their vision and inspire their employees.
In order to understand the requirements and to be able to build the above-mentioned competence framework, a reasonable amount of literature is investigated to find the research gap. To build the framework and measure and assess the improvement of digital leadership, theoretical sources and also industry experts are relied on in this master thesis. The requirements interview and the literature review build the foundation for the five expert interviews. With this approach, the master thesis at hand also provides a practiceoriented contribution in the field of digital leadership research.
Based on the literature review and the findings of the expert interviews, a competence framework including a maturity model and suggestions for improvement for digital leaders has been created. The evaluation of the competence framework has shown that it is possible to create a competence framework integrating the dimensions of agility, intrapreneurship, leadership approaches and organizational structures to effectively measure and assess digital leadership capabilities of executives.
Since today’s business environment is evolving and changing rapidly future research about this topic is also suggested, to enhance the effectiveness of the framework and to adjust the competences and capabilities focused on within the framework to the latest trends regarding digital leadership.
