The client is facing challenges in recruiting and keeping healthcare professionals. The main problem is the rigid work schedules, which make it hard for employees to balance their work with personal life. This lack of flexibility is a big issue in today’s work environment, where many workers value flexibility highly. On top of this, the client is competing with neighboring regions, where healthcare providers offer higher salaries and better benefits. This competition makes it even harder to attract and retain skilled workers.
A qualitative research methodology was employed, including semi-structured interviews with frontline workers and management, complemented by direct field observations and a detailed literature review. This approach was designed to uncover the underlying challenges impacting employee satisfaction and retention. The insights gained were then used to formulate targeted recommendations aimed at enhancing workforce flexibility, improving job satisfaction, and addressing the root causes of the identified issues.
The research concluded that introducing flexible work arrangements, like flexitime, compressed workweeks, and an open rota system, could greatly improve job satisfaction and help retain employees. These flexible options give employees more control over their schedules, which can reduce work-life conflicts and lower stress levels. By offering these kinds of flexible work arrangements, the company can become a more attractive place to work, even when competing with other regions that offer higher salaries. This approach can help the organization keep skilled professionals who might otherwise be tempted to leave for better pay elsewhere. Additionally, by implementing these recommendations, the company can build a more motivated and committed workforce. Employees who feel more in control of their work schedules are likely to be more satisfied with their jobs and less likely to leave. This can lead to better continuity in patient care, as a stable workforce means that patients can receive consistent, high-quality care from the same caregivers. In the long run, these changes can improve the overall service quality.
