This study elaborates the cyber security aspects of critical infrastructures for the Swiss aviation industry. The research reveals that critical infrastructures, and with it the Swiss aviation industry, are enormously interconnected and dependent on information communication technology. Current and future activities to advance the aviation industry and its related information systems will further increase the interconnectivity of the aviation ecosystem as well as the dependency on information and cyber technologies. Whereas the advancements increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the whole aviation industry, they also increase the exposure to cyber threats due to the growth in interconnectivity. The aviation industry is aware of the rise of such threats and various efforts have been started to manage them. These efforts range from general critical infrastructure protection to specific activities in the area of cyber security in the aviation industry. Whereas several companies and organizations launched initiatives, the literature research of this study has revealed that standards or guidance for cyber security within the aviation industry are neither recognized nor compulsory....
