Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) is a distinguished transportation company situated in the Swiss city of Basel. The array of transport services provided by BVB encompasses tram and bus services, along with various mobility solutions. Currently their Quality Management of the cleaning of their staff rooms and stops encompasses sporadic checks and a sheet on which employees must sign when they cleaned the rooms. The aim is to recommend holistic measures to implement a Quality Management System in accordance to ISO Standards to ensure that the cleaning quality is high.
To achieve this, we first conducted research on the ISO 9000, 9001 and 9002 which explain the standardization of a Quality Management System. We then adapted these standards to the specific case of BVB. In line with our customers’ requests, we also brought forward our ideas and recommendations on how to realize the standards presented.
Key outcomes of the project include the establishment of systematic quality control mechanisms and ensuring consistent and high-standard cleaning services. The introduction of precise quality characteristics and scheduled quality controls enhances the transparency and accountability of cleaning operations. Furthermore, the project's emphasis on employee training fosters compliance with ISO norms, equipping the staff with the necessary skills to uphold the highest standards of cleanliness and safety, and thus reducing costs. The work also covers resource allocation for the most important segments of QMS implementation. After a thorough analysis of BVB's structure guided by ISO standards, it becomes important for BVB to finalize a QMS in alignment with these insights. We concluded with recommendations of an effective QMS integration to enhance overall service quality and improve operational efficiency at BVB.
