Risk Aware Sourcing Strategy Assistant RASSA

Recent events such as the Russo-Ukrainian war of 2022 and the covid-19 pandemic have once again shown that global supply chains are exposed to risks that are external to the individual companies in a supply chain network. Whilst supply chain management as a discipline knows various methods for risk analysis and specialized companies provide technology for supply chain visualization as well as risk data, effort from the information systems side of research has mostly been given to operating resilient supply chains after sourcing decisions have been made as well as to reacting to potential adverse events. Thus, an approach for developing knowledge graph-based decision support systems which help business users to make sourcing decisions with a balanced view on trade offs between risk associated with single sourcing and potential extra cost of dual sourcing strategies was identified as a research gap. Based on design science research including literature review, expert interviews and the development as well as evaluation of a domain ontology, this thesis suggests that a risk aware sourcing strategy assistant (RASSA) may be a valid solution to support more cost-risk balanced sourcing decisions considering macro environmental risks that suppliers are exposed to.
