Business Plan for the Implementation of the “Value-Based Patients’ Online Community”

Our project establishes a business plan for a value-based patients' online community for the Bellikon Rehabilitation Clinic's amputee patients, aiming to provide continuous care for the patient, starting from the point of diagnosis or amputation and extending after they return to their daily lives.

To get funding for the implementation phase of the project, a detailed business plan is required. This business plan is intended to be submitted to the Swiss innovation agency - Innosuisse. Therefore, it is imperative that all requirements are meticulously recorded and formulated. However, preparing such a documentation thoroughly and consistently requires a large amount of time for research and drafting, which is currently not available to the client and the university. Therefore, the task should be solved by developing the business plan as part of a bachelor thesis.
For the business plan, we have adopted a qualitative methodology to gain in-depth and comprehensive knowledge. To substantiate our analysis and to determine accurate and realistic numbers for the business, we have conducted 14 qualitative semi-structured interviews with experts in healthcare, entrepreneurship, and IT experts. Using the template from the Swiss innovation agency Innosuisse, we created a comprehensive business plan that incorporates such models including a financing strategy, work packages, balanced scorecards, growth plan, implementation plan, and risk analysis.
We found that the introduction of the online community yields compelling results, showcasing its potential to revolutionize patient care. Most importantly, it has led to notable cost savings throughout the treatment period, from preparation to post-treatment care. This is because, with the support of the online community, patients become more informed and independent, reducing their dependence on medical professionals. By using the platform, patients seek the use of local clinics only in urgent cases, reducing their financial costs. Moreover, this shift has led to a significant increase in overall patient satisfaction, highlighting the positive results of the online community. It has undoubtedly proven to be an effective and cost-efficient solution that improves both the quality and experience of patient care. Our value-based online patient community for the Bellikon Rehabilitation Clinic should be a significant step towards comprehensive and patient-centered care for amputee patients in Switzerland. This distinguishes the initiative as novel and pioneering initiative.
