The movie theatre business has radically changed in the last decade. Challenges like the late coronavirus, energy crises, and the rapidly growing streaming business have had a substantial financial impact on the cinema industry. This has left cinemas in an uncertain position. They try to adapt to this new landscape while also dealing with changes in consumer behavior and potential strategies for adapting to this new reality. The project aims to provide cinema owner Mr. Riesen with an innovative website, as the previous web presence did not attract the customers' attention as expected.
Comparing different technologies played a crucial role in the solution-finding process. The project team conducted a comprehensive requirement engineering to clarify the current and future business and technical requirements. The requirement originated from interviews with the cinema owner and many brainstorming sessions. Further, a market analysis was conducted about the development of cinemas and streaming services as competitors.
The newly developed website is based on WordPress technology and includes multiple vital features that should improve user-friendliness, data security, and automation. The frontend was created from scratch to increase user-friendliness and correspond to the cinema's theme. The design was built for the customer's specific needs and can be easily adjusted by the client at any time. The website supports the control of the generated content to increase data security. The automation level of the website was improved by custom WordPress data containers and additionally installed and configured plugins. The integration of an additional security layer, a decentralized cloud-backup solution, was integrated to enhance security. Finally, GDPR was also integrated into the new website to lay the legal foundation for offers to customers from the EU countries.
