Over the years, Axpo's human resources department has built a network of information systems that have served for many years, as well as systems that have been added to meet the new needs that have emerged over time. It has resulted in a landscape of many separate systems serving different areas. As these HR information systems no longer meet the current expectations and needs of HR, managers and employees, they pose a variety of challenges to all stakeholders.
In order to provide Axpo with a thorough recommendation on which information system is best suited to the needs of HR, a thorough market research as well as a needs analysis has been carried out. In addition, a knowledge base has been established to illustrate the advantages and impacts of modern human resources information systems.
The bachelor thesis answered three research questions. The first research question was aimed at identifying the problems and deficits that the current systems cause to users. The lack of integration, which, as a result, complicates the use of data by adding complexity to data sources and interfaces, could be found. In addition, systems are not perceived as user-friendly, which significantly reduces user satisfaction. The second question dealt with the requirements and functionalities that the new system landscape needs to provide. Responses reflected the main problem and it could be found that a system that covers the functionality of the different HR functions in one is desired. In addition, a modern system with good usability, integrated workflows, availability of mobile solutions and strong data analysis capabilities should be preferred. The final research question was aimed at comparing HR information system vendors on the market to Axpo's detailed needs to identify the most appropriate vendor. Eventually, a clear recommendation has been given.
