The FVBB aims to promote, support and further develop firefighting in the cantons of Basel-Country and Basel-City. The association strives to provide attractive benefits to its members and to maintain the importance of firefighting. The Digitalization transfers the physical flow of information, such as that of a magazine or an information letter in the mailboxes, more and more into the World Wide Web. In order that the FVBB is able to successfully continue its purpose and is capable to ensure a timely communication, there is a need for new approaches and solutions.

In a first step the initial situation was analysed and possible approaches were elaborated. In collaboration with the client the requirement specification was established and prepared for the implementation. The practical part is mainly accomplished as a result of the basis, theories and teachings of the study program Business Information Technology. Models and practices required for the realization process are derived from various taught modules such as project management or software engineering. Due to the relatively short time span of the project a linear process model was implemented.

All requirements that were defined in the software requirement specification could be met. This means that among other things a native mobile application that is compatible with the Android operating system was successfully developed and tested. The application exhibits a flexible and robust system architecture to simplify a further development of the app. To ensure an efficient and effective maintenance a technical source code documentation was established. In addition a user manual written for the system administrator can facilitate the operation and handling of the mobile application. To ensure the comprehension for the single choices made to achieve the defined project goals, the theory, practice and procedure that were applied are documented in detail. The app that is tailored to the needs of the FVBB enables for example to distribute various information as news entry quickly, easily and efficiently to all users of the platform and is thus an additional important building block for the promotion, support and further development of firefighting in the cantons of Basel-City and Basel-Country.
