Recommendations for the development of a digital maturity model for swiss Non-profit organisations

Digital maturity models are used to evaluate the maturity of organisations towards the digital transformation. Furthermore, the models help the organisations to analyse and reflect on their core business and processes, whether or not they are prepared for the digital future.

As there are already digital maturity models, there exists a gap, since there exists no model, which is directly targeted to evaluate and help non-profit organisations to master the challenges of the digitalisation. Although the non-profit organisations differentiate in many aspects from profit organisations, nobody has yet identified ways to analyse them in all their dimensions towards digitalisation.
The procedure to identify a possible digital maturity model, that is dedicated to npo's was to analyse in a first phase, how already developed maturity models measure the digital maturity and what kind of models even exist. The specified procedure to reach this, was done with a literature analysis. In a second phase, a prototype should be developed, which could help npo's in the future, to analyse and measure their digital maturity through a web based solution.
Four models have been analysed and identified by the author. The models have several dimensions, which they evaluate with questionnaires, to then identify the maturity grade of a company. A web based prototype solution has been developed by the author, to provide the evaluation of the digital maturity through an online questionnaire. The programming of the solution was done in PHP. Outlook: With the results of the thesis, in a next step the evaluated dimensions need to be proven or disproven with interviews of managers in the non-profit area. Furthermore, the prototype system needs to be adapted, since it has a failure in the storing of the data from the questionnaire.
