The FitzGerald Bilingual Day School currently runs a nursery, preschool and one year of Kindergarten in German and English in Schönenwerd, Switzerland. With the resources to open a further school, the objective of this project is to find the best suited locations for a subsidiary of the FitzGerald Bilingual Day School. To do this, the most important factors for a suitable location will be determined and applied, direct and indirect competitors in the area analysed and a detailed analysis of the best suited location done.

First in this project, the FitzGerald School is analysed and a literature review is done. This is followed by search criteria, which are split into 3 levels. Level 1 criteria consist of the deciding criteria for the client. Then, Level 2 criteria make the search more specific. Finally, Level 3 criteria are not used to eliminate further candidates, but rather to analyse the remaining municipalities. To confirm the relevance of the chosen criteria, a survey was conducted with parents of children attending the FitzGerald Bilingual Day School.

The survey confirmed the relevance of most of the chosen criteria. Most relevant for parents was the accessibility by car. Other key aspects of interests, that were however not relevant for a site selection were the importance of full day care as well as the bilingualism of the school. The application of the multiple criteria led the municipality of Solothurn being named the best suited location for a subsidiary of the FitzGerald Bilingual Day School, with Langendorf being the second best suited. By finding ten municipalities that passed Level 1 and Level 2 criteria, it was determined that there are municipalities suitable for a subsidiary of the FitzGerald School. It is now possible to search for accomodation for a subsidiary within the municipalities deemed suitable during this research.
