In the correctional system of the Canton of Bern, as well as at the national level, digitalization potential has been increasingly recognized in recent years. On the one hand, this relates to unused efficiency potential and, on the other hand, to adjustments to the service offerings for inmates by the AJV that are necessary in the long term in order to fulfil the service obligation of resocialization and reintegration in a society characterized by digitalization.
A design-oriented approach was developed and used to elaborate the digitalization initiative, the program of the same name for implementing the digitalization potentials. This was the basis for the development of a situation analysis, the derivation of fields of action for digitalization, the collection and evaluation of digitalization potentials, and drafting of additional measures to further develop the service offering and the organization.
With the help of the resulted digitalization roadmap and further measures for organizational change, a realistic forecast and basis for discussion is given for setting up the digitalization initiative. The focus is not only on the efficiency potential, but also on the further development of the service offerings for inmates and related organizational change. The digitalization roadmap and suggestions for organizational and cultural measures for implementing the digitization initiative describes a holistic view of how the digital transformation in AJV can be approached.
