Within the market for software for the retail of Lighting Solutions there exists numerous solutions but few are the success stories for MAR applications. Among the few that have been found to meet the client requirements, Homestory and LuminAiRe showcase few opportunities for improvement.

Sales of products through physical points of sale are increasingly declining, while sales through digital channels showcase a steady increase for both the market and the client company. Ribag is negatively affected by this trend. To close the gap between offline and online, the client committioned a research on the market for AR software which, in combination with the existing e-business solution, have the potential of supporting the pre-purchase process and drive sales.
Within this thesis, the state of the market for Mobile Augmented Reality solutions for the support of the existing e-business system was researched; promising technologies for the support of the light and physical dimension, requirement of the client company, were also researched within the literature review. Five use cases have been gathered and have been analysed by four Testers with expertees in the Business Information Technology sector. As a tool for this evaluation, an excel table was developed. Recommendation for the client conclude the thesis.
This thesis has found that current state of MAR technology is at a stage which is mature enough for investments by the client company. Further technologies which are considered promising in, combination with an appropriate MAR solution, are the Environmental User Interface and examples of Sun-Tracking solutions. Within the market for MAR software in the support of Lighting Design solutions, few use cases are able to satisfy the client requirements: Homestory showcases opportunities for improvements. LuminAiRe has been found to be the only solution which is able to meet successfully the client needs, addressing both the mass consuming sector and the other current market segments targeted of Ribag. lkeaPlace is a further success story of a solution which addresses effectively the mass consuming sector, thanks to its virtual catalogue which includes a lighting effect, although such technology has been found to be more developed within LuminAiRe. The excel table developed is considered to be a valuable asset in support of further research by the client company, Ribag.
