The growing importance of cybersecurity is a topic that needs to be covered. This paper aims to capture, with the limited resources available, the current market situation in Switzerland and Liechtenstein for the cybersecurity market and provides an overview regarding relevant cybersecurity topics.
Existing data was gathered from reliable, up-to-date sources (books, websites, etc.) to acquire the necessary knowledge for the literature review. The reports used were published by research institutions or by large competitors and are publicly available and free-of-charge. Moreover, the execution of the expert interviews represented a further source for gathering information to fill any gaps that could not be filled through publicly available information. The interviews were also used to validate information gathered and findings made. These interviews were held to gather qualitative data.
The conducted Porters Five Forces analysis concluded that the competition in that field is moderate, and that price is to an extend not a differentiating factor. Trust is a key success factor for both established businesses and those new to the market. To establish a presence in the Swiss market it is essential to provide a service tailored to the domestic culture with local representation. The Federal Act on Data Protection as well as the European General Data Protection Regulation laws are applicable. It may prove tough to freshly acquire business partners from existing long-term relationships with rivals purely through price. The small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) market, which has enormous potential, is very fragmented and so may be difficult for large providers to scale down and provide individualized service at an affordable price. The SMEs are clear laggards in terms of maturity of their ICT security and have tight budgets. Enterprises, on the other hand, are leaders in cybersecurity maturity and have established partners in place. The shift from managing cybersecurity internally to externally managed security services provides an opportunity for growth.
