Avatar robotics has been implemented in various international markets, yet it remains commercially unestablished in Europe. This technology presents a Swiss social enterprise with opportunities to advance workplace and social inclusion. Nevertheless, market entry into Switzerland and the DACH region is associated with uncertainties related to user demand, regulatory frameworks, financing, public acceptance, strategic partnerships, and sustainable business models. Consequently, this thesis investigates the development of a feasible market-entry strategy for avatar robotics.
This thesis employed a qualitative, exploratory methodology. It integrated a structured literature review with market and environmental analyses focused on Switzerland and the DACH region. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with representatives from relevant organizations, potential users, and subject matter experts. Thematic analysis was applied to the findings, and various partnership-based market-entry strategies were compared. The results informed the development of a business model and recommendations for implementation.
The findings demonstrate significant potential for avatar robotics in inclusive employment, education, and social participation. However, successful market introduction is contingent upon factors including financing, regulatory compliance, public awareness, user acceptance, and collaboration with key stakeholders. The analysis indicates that a phased approach, grounded in strategic partnerships, can mitigate uncertainties and facilitate the accumulation of practical experience prior to broader market expansion. Accordingly, this thesis offers a structured framework for the client to evaluate potential market opportunities and future implementation strategies. The proposed business model and recommendations inform ongoing strategic discussions, guide the planning of pilot applications, foster stakeholder engagement, and support the assessment of future expansion prospects in Switzerland and the broader DACH region.
