The 3LandSpiel is a physical board game meant to connect secondary school students across the Swiss, German and French border region. An AI-based game content generator should generate new game content for the game, but until now the scope and requirements from the secondary school teachers were not clear.
First, existing research on AI tools in education were reviewed to identify generic functional requirements. Then, six teachers from Switzerland, Germany and France, plus one student were interviewed about their needs and concerns to find specific functional requirements. Their answers were compared with the findings from research and combined into one clear set of requirements. Based on this, three example journeys were designed that show how a teacher could use the AI tool in practice, from preparing a lesson to using it in class.
The thesis delivers a catalogue of 18 requirements that the AI-based game content generator should fulfil, together with a conceptual design in the form of teacher journeys showing how these requirements fit together. These three teacher journeys, illustrate how a teacher could use the tool to prepare and run a lesson with 3LandSpiel and therefore serve as practical examples. The findings show that teachers trust AI generated content mainly when they can check the origin of information and facts through clear source transparency. Second, teachers also expect the tool to respect ethical standards as a given rather than as an extra requested feature. Third, teachers agree that the content must fit into the regional context. For the 3LandSpiel project, this work provides a solid and tested foundation for building an AI tool that teachers will actually want to use, bringing the goal of connecting young people across the three countries a step closer to reality.
