The surgical department of a Swiss hospital group operates across three sites, employing 60 – 70 physicians. Alongside the main ERP system, an additional 20 – 30 systems are in use that are not fully integrated with each other. This complex system landscape makes it difficult to assess productivity at an individual level and hinders systematic comparisons across sites. Currently all services provided and tariff points are being evaluated manually and individually.
Following a review of selected literature on dashboard concepts in healthcare and interviews with employees, productivity data was gathered from internal systems. A criteria catalogue was then used to evaluate Power BI, Tableau and the internal BI Tool in terms of integration, usability, cost, scalability and data protection. Based on this evaluation and the client’s requirements, a dashboard prototype was developed.
The result is an interactive performance dashboard that illustrates productivity across three levels: sites, professional groups and individual physicians. KPIs such as tariff points, services performed and year-on-year developments are displayed and can be filtered. The analysis for the year 2025 reveals significant differences between sites, which can be used by the manager for decision-making. The tool evaluation also provides a reliable recommendation for future technical implemen-tation. For the client, this creates a scalable management tool, that makes productivity differences visible immediately. This enables targeted recommendations for action and fact-based resource planning across all sites.
