In today's workforce digital literacy is a critical skill factor for success. It enables adaptability, collaboration and innovation. However, 88% of companies have no action plan on how to adress digital literacy gaps and 32% of Europeans lack basic digital literacy skills. Low digital literacy reduces productivity, increases stress and slows technology adoption. Therefore, addressing this topic in organisations is essential for competitiveness and succesful digital transformation.
First a secondary literature review was conducted after that a narrative synthesis, such as a critical content analysis identified recurring patterns and gaps within the literature. The authors professional work expierence then added to recommendations and the conlusion. This combined approach enabled the author to answer the research questions and provide first few recommendations to tackle digital literacy barriers at the workplace.
The thesis figured that effective digital literacy support systems must go beyond technical skills training. While the literature identified barriers to digital literacy like age, financial constraints and psychological factors, existing literature and frameworks in that field rarely offer detailed guidance on how different types of companies can overcome the,. To address these gaps, the author recommends micro-learning for fexible skill development, hackathons to boost engagement, reverse mentoring to bridge generational divides and tailored learning pathhs evaluated through regular surveys and longitudinal studies. These strategies, combined with continous feedback and strong management involvement can improve adoption of digital literacy within the workplace to enhance productivitgy and strengthen adaptability in the long run.
