This thesis investigates aligning higher education with job and skill demands driven by the industrial revolution, focusing on FHNW’s master's program in business information systems. It addresses the challenge of equipping graduates with essential skills amid rapidly evolving job requirements due to technological advancements. Evaluated against the OECD Learning Compass 2030 framework, the research emphasizes the integration of skills development.
To achieve this alignment, the study incorporates a recommender system to provide personalized learning pathways and course recommendations based on in demand jobs for the future and skill requirements. The research follows the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, iteratively designing, developing, and evaluating the recommender system within the master's program.
This research contributes to higher education and skill development by offering insights into adapting education to meet the demands of a rapidly changing job market. It highlights the importance of a holistic educational approach that balances theoretical knowledge with practical skills and demonstrates the potential of advanced technologies to enhance educational outcomes and better align them with industry needs.
