What is the best approach to implement resource management at the operating room and the nursing station of the Kantonsspital Baselland?

Public hospitals in Switzerland have a challenging prospect: insufficient financing, rising costs, high investments in infrastructure and a shortage of skilled employees. Practical solutions are required to counteract these trends and improve financial stability.

One of the most promising solution approaches is implementing dedicated resource management. The main objective is to improve the balance of all required and available resources with the patient demand. It offers the unique possibility to reduce overall costs and improve patient treatment simultaneously.
The overall goal was to develop the groundwork for the Kantonsspital Baselland to initiate a project based on the findings of this bachelor thesis. This goal is achieved by explaining a selected range of resource management theories and the underlying intent in detail. An overview of some possible proven software solutions supporting resource management is offered.
An elaborated 18-step plan for the implementation of resource management at the Kantonsspital Baselland was developed and serves as the final product. A decision by the board of directors to continue working on this approach, based on the 18-step plan, and realising resource management would be the author's reccomended next step. A project of this magnitude requires the collaboration and the support from all the hospital stakeholders and a lengthy and challenging project would henceforth be set in motion to achieve the goal of lasting reduction of overall costs and improved patient treatment.
