Cloud computing is one of the emerging, evolutionary technology in field of information technology. Several entities are exploring the possibilities to incorporate cloud computing services in order to save cost, access to “anywhere and anytime” data, scalability and security. As the demand for cloud computing services increases, a lot of new entrants are joining the fray. This brings in challenges in cloud service selection and service quality for stakeholders (providers, user and intermediaries) of cloud computing services. There have been lot of research of cloud service selection, quality of service but the area of service quality has not been explored or it can be said there have been limited research in this field. Taking these facts into consideration, the research thesis examines the cloud computing services, identifies common characteristics of the service, and proposes a classification scheme with focus on service quality, which can help providers to meet the expectations of the users and their perception of the service delivered. Since it involves development of classification scheme based on characteristics of cloud computing services, it follows a design science research strategy. The literature review focuses on service, service quality, what is meant by service quality for cloud services, different approaches of cloud service selections, which are based on characteristics of cloud computing services.
