Elevating Lifelong Learning

The present study investigates the convergence of blockchain technologies, Verifiable Credentials (VCs), Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), and Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) within the domain of lifelong learning (LLL). The proposal outlines a prototype of a product that utilizes blockchain technology aimed at facilitating the ongoing, self-directed development of professionals, regardless of the location or method of learning. The research approach employed in this study comprised of semi-structured interviews conducted with a targeted group of lead users and professionals who possess expertise in the domains of human capital and blockchain technology and a user survey. The objective of the research was to ascertain the requirements, obstacles, and prospects within the learning environment and explore the ways in which these innovative technologies can be utilized to tackle them. The findings reveal a significant opportunity to design an integrated system that supports LLL. The proposed system leverages the strengths of blockchain technologies, offering transparency, security, and decentralization, alongside Verifiable Credentials and DIDs, ensuring privacy and control over one's digital identity. With this system, professionals can accumulate and demonstrate all kind of their learning achievements over time in a verifiable and trusted manner.
