The project's starting point was a comprehensive analysis of the existing challenges and opportunities. It became evident that the company needed to modernise its operations to adapt to changing market dynamics and customer expectations. The online store, www.arc8bicycles.ch, had been successful, but there was a clear need for a more structured and efficient approach to business processes.
Firstly, Business Process Management concepts were introduced to bring structure and clarity to the company's operations. This involved documenting current business processes and developing adapted process models using BPMN 2.0 notation. In addition to optimising business processes, the project evaluated potential new Enterprise Resource Planning systems. The existing ERP system was no longer aligned with the company's evolving strategy. A thorough literature review was conducted on software evaluation, and multiple ERP products have been compared.
With the completion of this bachelor's thesis, the company now possesses a valuable collection of process models. It includes As-Is models, documenting current business processes for efficient communication with external stakeholders and new staff. Additionally, To-Be process models have been developed, not only refining existing processes but also introducing new ones to address emerging responsibilities. These To-Be models are instrumental in guiding the forthcoming changes in the business, serving as instructions for transformation. The ERP evaluation results have been delivered to the company, aiding in their request for a long-term solution. An evaluation matrix was crafted to assess eight ERP products, with five eliminated due to missing features or cost concerns. The detailed analysis focused on Microsoft's Business Central, Infoniqa's Infoniqa One 50, and Odoo. These findings will facilitate communication with ERP providers and negotiation leadership. Moreover, the report highlights the company's requirements, prioritising essential functionalities critical to the business's success.
