In today's rapidly changing landscape, Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) have become essential for modern organisations. This study delves into enhancing D&I within a prominent organisation, specifically focusing on women in the workforce. Two vital questions are explored: How can the organisation attract more women, aiming for a 20% women's representation by 2025, and how can their lasting engagement be ensured?
The thesis presents insights derived from a literature review, which establishes a strong theoretical foundation covering key concepts, challenges, and potential solutions related to D&I. The review highlights the positive impact of gender diversity in top management teams on decision-making, and profitability for companies. However, it also reveals the persistent underrepresentation of women in leadership roles, particularly in Switzerland. Qualitative research involving interviews with female employees across various management tiers was conducted to understand their experiences.
The analysis highlights the strengths of existing D&I initiatives, such as pay equality and supportive teams. Crucially, career growth opportunities emerge as a key motivator. Yet, challenges like the scarcity of women in management positions are revealed. The study offers actionable recommendations, including mentoring programs, workshops, job-sharing, and top-sharing to enhance personal and professional growth. By embracing these recommendations, the organisation can solidify its commitment to Diversity and Inclusion. Building an inclusive work environment that celebrates diversity and empowers all employees, regardless of gender, will ensure the long-term success and commitment of its workforce and ultimately lead to achieving its women's quota of 20%.
