The Swiss client develops several software products in the area of labor automation and microbiology. The software in question, however deems to support small lot productions in pharmacies. Currently, it is only used by one French pharmacy, which underwent an inspection in February 2022. The feedback from the audit was, that the software must be certified. Furthermore, the client wants to assess for longer time whether the software could be helpful for other customers. Therefore, a market analysis was conducted to conclude on possible future directions of the product strategy.
Research activites concerning a French software certification mandate were conducted. To give more context about data protection regulations, the European GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and Swiss DSG (Datenschutzgesetz) have been elaborated. Qualitative interviews were held to conclude the software's market potential, and the interview partners were people from the domain and based in Switzerland. Looking at potential development of the products, the client’s software was compared with seen software during the interviews.
A respective underlying mandate to certify the software in France, could not be proven. Therefore, potential other certifications were outlined, being also put in question related to the investment and the actual market profit to do so. The main points from the data protection laws were three requirements. The first is the ability to destroy or anonymise data once the aim of processing is reached, the second to keep up with the technical state of the art regarding data security and lastly, to facilitate the drawing of reports in case of a request to disclose which personal data is processed of an individual. The last dimension of the synthesise was the market analysis. It deems to support the client’s decisions on the future product strategy and outlines potential software development directions, further customer groups and geographical markets to consider and collaborations, that may support the expansion.
