As the analyzed organization is already using some forms of agile elements and wants to gain a deeper understanding of the topic, the aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a manual explaining the most widely used agile methods. Additionally, it is important for the organization to understand in which departments the necessary preconditions for the implementation of agile methods are given and how the agility of a project team can be measured.
To provide such a manual, the authors completed a literature review, covering five of the most commonly used agile methods by discussing their history, framework, areas of application, roles, benefits and drawbacks. Additionally, the EFQM excellence model is explained and used to provide an overview of the organization. Furthermore, the authors identified departments with the necessary preconditions to implement agile methods by gathering empirical data. Finally, the Organizational Agility Maturity Model is explained and used to assess the agility of a project team within the organization.
With this paper, the client gains a broad overview of agility and understands the most commonly used methods in today’s business world. Further, a grid containing the key information of the discussed methods enables an easy and quick comparison and builds the ground for future decision-making regarding the implementation of such. Besides this overview, the client receives an explanation of the EFQM model of excellence, understands how to apply it and is provided with an evaluation of the organization. Even more, the client receives information on specific departments or teams which show the necessary preconditions for the implementation of agile methods. Additionally, the client understands the Organizational Agility Maturity Model, receives an evaluation of a selected project team and can use the model for the future assessments of teams, departments or even the entire organization.
By understanding agility and how to measure it, the client is now able to develop its organizational agility.
