The company has consistently experienced performance issues with the usage of their portfolio & asset management software. The problem they are confronted with is the slow processing speed of different functionalities during the usage of the portfolio & asset management software. Increasing the raw processing power, by upgrading hardware components, was not enough to tackle the problem, therefore an in-depth analysis must be done.
The first phase was to search and define the evaluation criteria with the company. In the second phase, methods and tools were identified. The next phase consisted of evaluating and justifying the tools according to the evaluation criteria. In a fourth step, the chosen tools and methods were utilized to conduct a performance analysis. After interpreting the results, the second last phase was to justify the findings with the methods used. The last step was to create a suggestion for improvement based on the methods justified in the previous phase.
Through the completion of this project, the company received the results of an in-depth analysis of their portfolio & asset management software and the surrounding IT infrastructure. By gathering knowledge about different problem areas, which may have led to performance issues, such as the database or application server, the network, the hardware, or the portfolio & asset management software itself, appropriate analysis tools have been proposed. As a consequence of applying the chosen analysis tools “AppOptics” and “Wireshark”, it can be shown that the database and the network are not the main contributors to performance issues. Most time spent on larger queries can be traced back to the local code of the portfolio & asset management software itself. This gives the fundament for the company to go into future discussions with the software provider of the portfolio & asset management software to resolve the persisting performance issues.
