Currently, the client does not have a project controlling. Only a few reports are created, which are often based on estimates instead of data. If reports were created with the current values, they would not be significant due to incorrect or missing data. This could lead to decisions being made based on incorrect assumptions. In order to be able to create data-based reports in the future, this Bachelor Thesis provides a recommendation of what project controlling could look like. On the other hand, the data that is necessary for evaluations is described.

After a short review of the current reports, the focus was on a first broad literature research to get preliminary information on the topic. For this purpose, secondary data was used. Based on that, the literature review was established and a first draft of the concept was created. Afterward, the ERP system had to be analyzed for feasibility and the reports had to be designed. Subsequently, the results were analyzed and discussed.

By introducing a project controlling, the projects are cleanly planned, monitored, analyzed, and controlled. If deviations from the plan occur, corrective actions can be taken in a timely manner. Potential cost drivers in the projects can also be identified in order to reduce them in the future. Furthermore, due to regular monitoring, erroneous data is noticed and can be corrected directly. The suggested reports are no longer based on estimates as before but can be created data-based in the future, given that the data is correctly available in the ERP system. The manual creation of reports could also be supported by additional tools in order to keep the time required for creation within reasonable limits. The elaboration of this Bachelor Thesis has shown that even the combination of a few KPIs can provide much information about the current project status and that the direction for future projects can also be indicated. Even if the preparation of the data and the visualization of the reports is time-consuming, the benefits clearly outweigh the effort.
