Due to the relatively infancy of occupancy analytics platforms, the benefits and possible cost savings of investing in such solutions are not fully understood yet. At the moment, it is up to the clients to calculate their own business cases, in order to decide if an investment would be reasonable. To be able to present an easy overview of possible savings which are possible, an according research of possible use cases, and their according saving potential is of interest.
Relevant research areas for Locatee are: space optimization, HVAC optimization and impact on employee.
First, a literature review was conducted to identify the possible use cases of occupancy analytics. In a second step, the relevant use cases were applied to the pre-defined sections of interest for Locatee: Space optimization, HVAC optimization and impact on employee. The next step consisted of applying the possible use cases to each section and calculate the saving potentials, either in savings per square meter or savings per employee. In a final step, all identified saving potentials were consolidated and applied to three different company sizes: 10,000m2, 100,000m2 and 500,000m2.
The results showed that the greatest saving potentials are in relation to the employee affected by HVAC systems. However, to what degree the savings can be realized, has yet to be further researched, as the technical implementation could be a possible threat for the realization.
Space reduction savings, HVAC energy savings and reduced searching time in offices, on the other hand, are benefits which promise a more definite success rate.
The total savings in each company scenario can be used to simply showcase what is possible with Locatee Analytics. These overviews are especially valuable when meeting with a client for the first time, and they do not understand what occupancy analytics is about, and what possible benefits they generate .
The three pre-defined company sizes (10,000m2, 100,000m2 and 500,000m2) also serve as a reference point. Depending on what size a company is, an according saving potential can easily be estimated on a high-level.
