Allianz Suisse wishes to expand its knowledge in the project management field. Theyare wondering how higher complexity, risk and uncertainty in their business environment, digitization and many more trends will impact the project manager role in the insurance industry, but also in general. Most importantly, an evaluation of the future requirements of the project manager must be provided and a glance into the future and how the role of the project manager will develop is highly desired.
Using desk research, the current state of project management roles and its requirements will be examined. Thereafter, relevant trends will be identified as well as their impact on the role of the project manager will be analyzed. To propose roles models, which could become reality, the authors will then create three scenarios. In the end, all the major findings of the research will be summarized, analyzed and presented with the self-established matrix. Lastly, a recommendation will be given to Allianz Suisse.
This project work aims to find out how the role of the project manager will develop and what requirements will be added or eliminated. Understanding what the trends in project management are and what impact they have on the project manager’s role and requirements was also crucial to our project work. In order to have a base with requirements, the authors have oriented themselves on the PMI Talent Triangle of the Project Management Institute (PMI) that was giving access to the knowledge areas of a project manager. This framework was found to be the most appropriate to evaluate the current as well as future requirements of the project manager role. In addition, the authors gave a glimpse into the future with three possible scenarios of the project manager’s role. By reference to the research the authors believe that digitalization and automatization, agile methodologies, client centricity and emotional intelligence have a great impact on the transformation of the project manager’s role. The focus in our scenarios are amongst others the soft skills which will gain higher importance. Also, it is apparent that the future project manager will be more exposed to technologies. Acting as a digital control centre and dealing with more complex requirements is certainly con-ceivable.
